We are the Enclosures Team and we are in charge of waterproofing all the electronics including, the arm, cameras, sensors, and etc. We are a very motivated team using waterproofing techniques like custom-made seals, epoxy and pvc housings. We test each of our waterproofing jobs in a pressure chamber and in the TAMUG pool before attaching them to the main ROV.
Initially, we decided that the electrical housings would be composed of acrylic tubing. One containing high power electrical components and the second containing low power electrical components. These chambers would also act as ballast system, placed on opposite ends toward the top of the ROV. However, instead of acrylic tubing we opted for two seperate aluminum enclosures with Acrylic lids and custom seals.
We are the waterproofing and enclosures team, we are the skin of the robot and our purpose is to ensure protection from any water entering and damaging its internal electrical components.
